COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's tennis team swept Francis Marion in a clean 7-0 victory Thursday afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus. The Lady Cougars improved to 7-3, 3-0 PBC, while the Patriots fell to 3-8, 1-4 PBC.
Each CSU doubles team had no problem against their Patriot opponents.
In first doubles,
Beatriz Lopez and
Candice Paya defeated Viktoria Leth and Hermon Mikael 6-1, improving to 4-0 as a pair.
Valentina Abrile and
Sara Ramirez Goncalves improved to 6-2 as a team after beating Eva Zannier and G. Karatantcheva 6-2 in second doubles. Playing at third doubles, the pair of
Luise Sachs and
Amanda Citre dominated Nargiza Yakhyaeva and Camryn Cassetori 6-0, making their record as a duo 9-1.
Similar to doubles play, Columbus State cruised through singles with victories.
Lopez improved to 6-2 after getting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mikael in first singles. Paya played in her third singles match of the season, beating Leth 6-0, 6-1 in second singles and improved to 2-1. Sachs defeated Zannier 6-1, 6-0 in third singles which moved her to 7-3 on the season. In fourth singles, Abrile improved to 7-1 as she collected a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Karatantcheva. Ramirez Goncalves swept Cassetori 6-0, 6-0 in fifth singles, advancing her record to 6-4. Finally,
Agostina Bigotti moved to 4-2 after she dominated Yakhyaeva 6-0, 6-0 in sixth singles.
The Lady Cougars will travel to Valdosta State University on Wednesday, March 31 for a non-conference match starting at 2 p.m.
