Women Soccer Drops Tough Exhibition Match at DI South Alabama

South Alabama scored two goals over the final three minutes to grab the win.

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - Two goals within the final three minutes of play edged the University of South Alabama by the No. 11 Columbus State University 3-1 on Saturday. The match took place at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

With the clock ticking down and the score tied, South Alabama went on the attack. Off of passes from Laurence Saviana and Deanna Greene, Brenna McPartlan found the back of the net in the 88th minute. Danielle Fuentes scored the final goal of the match just seconds later following a loose ball in the box that CSU failed to clear.

Columbus State controlled the pace of play in the opening half and held an early lead. Maria Kilset put the Lady Cougars on top in the 22nd minute after sneaking a shot by South Alabama's goalkeeper Allison Luckhardt.

The Lady Cougars remained ahead going into the half, thanks in part to a save by Bria Riancho in the 44th minute of action.

South Alabama didn't take long to tie things in the second half following some lineup changes from CSU. Hailey Bastian knotted the score in the 49th minute for the Jaguars on her first goal of the season.

USA had a golden chance to move ahead in the 54th minute, but Lizzie Hedrick denied a penalty kick chance from McPartlan to keep things tied at one.

CSU's best chance at a second goal came off the foot from Maddie DeFranco in the 64th minute. However, Luckhardt was there for the save. DeFranco's shot was the final one on the day for the Lady Cougars.

South Alabama outshot CSU 11-5, including holding a 6-1 advantage in the second half.

Twenty-four players checked in for Columbus State in the exhibition match, with 23 playing over 20 minutes.
