COLUMBUS - The top-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team continued its perfect season on Sunday with a 7-0 win over No. 20 Flagler College. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The Cougars improve to 11-0 and 3-0 in PBC play with the win. CSU has won 28 straight PBC matches as well as 28 consecutive regular-season contests. Flagler is now 4-8 and 2-1 in conference action.
Columbus State set the tone in doubles play by taking all three matches. First and second doubles were both decided by 6-3 margins.
Alvaro Regalado and
Javier Cueto Ramos took the top spot over Ramus Jonsson and William Jonsson. At second doubles, it was
Christian Garay and
Felix Steen picking up the victory against Phillipp Lemken and Halil Aydogdu.
Pietro Martinetti and
Tommaso Schold had the most impressive win in doubles action in the third position, a 6-1 decision over Nikita Tatyanin and Cedric Holzmann.
The Cougars won third through six singles in straight sets. Cueto Ramos turned in a 6-3, 6-2 performance against Lemken at third singles, while Steen posted 7-5, 6-2 win over Holzmann at fourth singles.
Justin Welz and Martinetti had similar matches at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Welz took down Max Berner 6-2, 6-4 with Martinetti winning 6-4, 6-2 versus Aydogdu.
First and second singles both went the distance. Garay was in the first position and split the first two sets 6-1, 3-6 with Tatyanin. However, he powered through in the deceived set 6-2 to grab the victory. Schold had to rally at second singles after dropping the opening set 3-6. The junior overcame the slow start to defeat R. Jonsson 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.Â
