DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The No. 11 Columbus State University women's tennis team dominated No. 16 University of North Georgia 7-0 on Sunday in a Peach Belt Conference match.
The Lady Cougars improved to 12-3 and 7-0 in PBC play after winning their 11th straight match. The Nighthawks fell to 10-2 and 5-1 in conference action.
Columbus State flew past North Georgia in doubles play as each team finished with a victory.
The duo of
Beatriz Lopez and
Candice Paya beat Vaishali Jorge and Johanna Lippert 6-3 at the top spot and improved to 7-2. Playing at second doubles,
Valentina Abrile and
Sara Ramirez Goncalves improved to 10-3 as a pair after defeating Annie Adams and Anna Markvartova 6-2. To finish doubles play, the team of
Amanda Citre and
Luise Sachs won 6-3 over Cibeles Zuddy and Claudelle Labonte Frey, upping their record 13-2.
The Lady Cougars continued the winning energy into singles play as each player picked up a win.
Lopez competed at first singles and won 6-2, 6-1 over Jorge. In second singles, Paya defeated Markvartova 6-3, 6-0. Sachs went into three sets with Zuddy and was able to sneak out a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at third singles. Playing in the fourth singles spot, Abrile recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Adams. Citre beat Labonte Frey 6-1, 7-6 at fifth singles, while Ramirez Gonvalves earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the sixth position over Lippert.
Columbus State will head to Young Harris College on Tuesday, April 13 for a PBC matchup starting at 4:30 p.m.
