Men's Tennis Takes Down Another Top-10 Opponent

COLUMBUS - The top-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team marched to another 7-0 victory and a top-10 win as the Cougars blanked sixth-ranked Lander University on Saturday morning. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus.

Columbus State improves to 13-0 and 4-0 in league action, while Lander (9-1, 3-1) took its first loss of the season.

The Bearcats put up a fight in doubles play, but the Cougars eventually prevailed for the first point of the day. LU claimed second doubles thanks to a 6-4 win from Tommaso Rossin and Matthew De Groot over Felix Steen and Christian Garay. CSU's first win of the day was at first doubles as Alavaro Regalado and Javier Cueto Ramos claimed a 6-2 decision against Adam Elliget and Hugo Regner. In the swing match, it was Pietro Martinetti and Tommaso Schold who came up clutch for the Cougars with a 6-4 victory over Guillaume Tattevin and Kim Oshiro at third doubles. 

The Cougars took all six singles matches in straight sets. Regalado and Garay were impressive in the top two spots for the Cougars. Regalado took first singles 6-1, 6-1 over Elliget, while Garay was a 6-0, 6-2 winner versus Tattevin. Schold had one of the toughest matches of the day at third singles but fought to a 7-5, 6-4 win to remain unbeaten this season. Cueto Ramos had an easy 6-3, 6-2 outcome against Mikael Erler at the fourth position. 

Justin Welz was another Cougar that was pushed to the limit on Saturday. Welz and Jamieson Nathan battled to the distance in both sets at fifth singles with Welz eventually walking away with a 7-6, 7-5 victory. Martinetti finished off the sweep at the sixth spot thanks to a 7-6, 6-1 win over Regner.

Columbus State will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. to face off against Georgia College on Tuesday, April 6 at 1 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for February 13 but was postponed due to rain.
