MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 13 Columbus State University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 10 after sweeping Georgia College 7-0 on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars improved to 11-3, 6-0 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Bobcats fell to 4-6, 1-3 PBC.
Two out of the three CSU doubles teams picked up wins on Tuesday. The pair of
Valentina Abrile and
Sara Ramirez Goncalves competed in second doubles where they swept their opponents 6-0 and advanced to 9-3. In third doubles, the duo of
Amanda Citre and
Luise Sachs improved to 12-2 after dominating their GC opponents 6-2.
Beatriz Lopez and
Candice Paya lost to Emma Fleming and Emilia Richter 3-6, falling to 6-2 overall.
Each Lady Cougar beat their Bobcat opponent in singles play. In first singles, Lopez beat Richter 6-3, 6-0 and is now 10-2. Sachs worked for her victory as she had to play to seven in the first match against Kim Yatribi. Sachs pulled away the second singles victory 7-5, 6-2.
Abrile and Citre moved past their Bobcat opponents 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2. In fifth singles, Goncalves won her first match 6-2 but had to kick it into gear in the second as she won 7-6.
Yelena Labat wrapped things up for the Lady Cougars in sixth singles, beating Emily Pope 6-1, 6-0.
Columbus State travels to Dahlonega, Ga. for a PBC matchup against North Georgia on Saturday, April 10 starting at 2 p.m.
