SALISBURY, N.C. - The No. 16 Columbus State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Catawba College on Thursday night in a non-conference match at the Frock Soccer Complex.
The two unbeaten teams were scoreless until the 86th minute when freshman
Emma Beddow scored her first collegiate goal off a saved shot attempt. However, Catawba (2-0-1) evened things three minutes later, as Kelly Havens sent a shot past CSU goalkeeper
Lizzie Hedrick.
Senior
Sara Halilhodzic was clutch in overtime for Columbus State (2-0-1) with three saves. In all, the goalkeeper had six stops. CSU's lone shot in OT came in the 95th minute when Beddow was denied by Sierra Davis.
"Tough match against a talented team," said head coach
Jay Entlich. "You can't be too upset about getting a tie on the road, but we wanted this win, especially after going up so late.
We can't be down on ourselves, and this weekend is a great test for later in the season."
The two sides played an even match with Catawba outshooting Columbus State 15-14. The Cougars fired off nine attempts in the second half, with four coming from Beddow.
Columbus State will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Queens University.
