COLUMBUS - The No. 3 Columbus State University women's soccer team logged its third straight shutout in a 6-0 thrashing of Georgia Southwestern University in front of a spirited Homecoming crowd at the Walden Soccer Complex on Saturday.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
• Rachael Sweigard started the scoring in the 24th minute following a nice pass from Emma Beddow. The graduate student rifled it into the back of the goal to put the Cougars in front.
• The Cougars snuck in another goal before the end of the first half. In the 41st minute, Lauren Barnes lined up for a corner kick and lofted a perfect ball into the box. The ball continued to curve until it crept into the upper-right 90 part of the net for the goal.
• Beddow scored the next two for CSU. The sophomore easily finished a penalty kick chance in the 57th minute before adding another goal in the 65th.
• It was then Faith Knoedler's turn to go on a scoring run as the transfer put the finishing touches on the win. The Cougars were attacking in the 68th minute when a Brooke Yount shot was blocked in the box. However, Knoedler was there to head it home to clean up the attack.
• More great passing led to the final score of the match. Lizz Forshaw sprinted down the field with the ball before sliding a pass to Knoedler. The first-year Cougar didn't miss the opportunity, rocketing home the goal.Â
