Cougars reach PBC Tournament Championship

CSU raced by Lander 3-1 in the PBC Tournament Semifinals.

COLUMBUS - The No. 3 Columbus State University women's soccer team is back in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship following a 3-1 win over Lander University on Sunday at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The top-seeded Cougars (16-1-1) will face second-seeded Flagler University in the title match on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Columbus.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
• CSU set the tone early for the day as Sage Smith found her first goal of the season in the 13th minute. Smith headed one home off a beautiful both by Olivia Roth to put the Cougars in front.
• However, Lander (7-5-6) found an equalizer in the 39th minute to stun the home crowd. The Bearcats used great passing to open up Alaric Hodge for the score.
• The match didn't stay tied for long though, with the Cougars roaring right back. Emma Beddow raced down the far side of the field before lazing a pass to Faith Knoedler in the box. Knoedler finished off the opportunity to put the Cougars ahead right before the break.
• Beddow added an insurance goal in the 60th minute after a LU handball in the box. 

NOTABLES
• CSU outshot LU 21-10 in the match, including an 13-6 margin over the second half
• It was the 10th match this season that the Cougars mustered 20-plus shots
• Columbus State has won 13 in a row and is unbeaten over its last 15 matches. 
• The goal by LU snapped CSU's six-match streak without allowing a goal. 
• Beddow is now tied for third in CSU history for the most goals in a single-season with 18. She is also tied for third with 43 total points.
• The Cougars matched their season-low with two corner kicks
• It's the third straight season Columbus State has advanced to the PBC Tournament finals. CSU will be making their 15th overall appearance in the championship 
match
