COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's basketball team falls short 75-72 to the University of North Carolina Pembroke in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 19 inside the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center. The Cougars fall to 2-2 and the Braves advance to 4-0 on the 2022-23 season.
CSU and UNCP were neck-and-neck throughout the entirety of the game, going into halftime with the Braves leading the Cougars 32-28. CSU came out of the locker room hot, outscoring Pembroke 40-36 in the second half, with Daniel Melvin tying the game at 68 apiece with a last second three-pointer to send the teams into OT.
The Cougars could only score four points in the extra period, while Pembroke scored seven to secure the victory.
"Tough game but Pembroke made some big shots and beat us on the boards," said Head Coach
Robert Moore. "A game we can learn from moving forward."
NOTES:
- CSU shot 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the free-throw line, while UNCP shot 74.1 percent (20-for-27).
- Melvin led the Cougars with 21 points, shooting 60 percent (6-for-10) from the three-point line and a perfect 100 percent (3-for-3) from the free-throw line.
- Nelson Haskin grabbed 12 rebounds for CSU, tallied five blocks and scored nine points.
- Grant Howard was the second-highest point scorer in the game, recording 12 points.
- Lederrius Jones added five assists.
