COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team is set to host the University of West Alabama on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at Cougar Field. The Cougars will begin the three-game series against the Tigers on Friday night at 5 p.m. and finish with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
Cougar Notes
- Columbus State is coming off a 1-3 showing at the Red-White-Blue Classic held at Cougar Field on Feb. 19 and 20. CSU spilt two games with Wingate University and was swept by No. 11 Auburn University at Montgomery
- Hannah Rose Corbin is leading the Cougar offense with a .414 batting average with three doubles and two home runs, while posting a team-high 21 RBIs and .724 slugging percentage and .595 on base percentage. Corbin also is 5-2 inside the circle with 58 strikeouts and holds a 3.27 ERA.
- Caitlyn Canady holds an eight-game hitting streak and posts a .310 average with 13 hits and two doubles.
- After last weekend, Lindsey Patton and Paige Vincent are on five-game hitting streaks.
- Haylee Folds leads the CSU pitching staff in ERA, posting a 1.99 in 31.2 innings pitched.
West Alabama Notes
- UWA is 6-7 and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference and are coming off dropping two-and-three against Mississippi College. The Tigers split with MC on Saturday, Feb. 19 then lost 11-3 to the Choctaws on Sunday, Feb. 20.
- Cassie Matlock is a threat at the plate, posting a .421 batting average with 16 hits including three doubles, one triple, six RBIs, while holding a .553 slugging percentage and .511 on base percentage.
- Other offensive leaders for the Tigers includes Kacy Noland and Taylor Clegg. Noland marks a .324 batting average with 11 hits, two doubles and a team-high seven RBIs, while Clegg posts a .310 average with nine hits, two doubles and one triple.
- Hannah Mynard leads West Alabama's pitching staff with a 3.72 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched and tallies 25 strikeouts.
Last Matchup
The Cougars and Tigers last met at the Gulf Shores Invitational on Feb. 6 where UWA took the 3-2 victory over CSU. Columbus State entered the seventh inning holding a 2-1 lead over West Alabama. However, a tough defensive miscue allowed the Tigers to rally for the 3-2 win.
