OKLAHOMA CITY - The fifth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to Cameron University in a tuneup before the ITA National Indoor Championship on Thursday.
It was CSU's (3-1) first loss of the season.
"We got to learn from this and continue to get better," said head coach Evan Isaacs. "It's a long season, and we will bounce back."
After a weather delay, the Lady Cougars started the day on a high note by taking the doubles point. At first doubles, No. 16 Valentina Abrile and Mariana Ramirez defeated Anastaisa Uspenskaia and Magda Wawrowska 6-3. Sara Ramirez Goncalves and Yelena Labat helped CSU earn the point with a 6-4 win at third doubles against Lee Manga and Kateryna Rudenko.Â
However, Cameron (4-2) took five of the six doubles matches to grab the win. Labat was the lone winner, grabbing a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at fourth singles for Columbus State.
