EDMOND, Okla. - The fifth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team fell 4-0 to third-ranked Central Oklahoma in the opening round of the 2022 ITA National Indoor Championship in Edmond, Okla. The match was played at Edmond Center Court. 

Second-seeded UCO (5-0) went up 1-0 on the Lady Cougars after taking two of the three doubles matches. In a top-25 showdown at first doubles, the top-ranked dup of Mae Canete and Christine Canete defeated 16th-ranked Valentina Abrile and Marina Ramirez 6-1. CSU grabbed third doubles as Yelena Labat and Sara Ramirez Goncalves took down Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock 6-2.

However, Central Oklahoma took the decisive match at second doubles. Adel Abidullina and Tizia Brocks outlasted Agostina Bigotti and Neila Trklja. 

UCO raced to three wins in singles play to advance into the semifinals. Second-ranked M. Canete took down Abrile 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, while her sister fourth-ranked C. Canete won second doubles 7-6 (6-4), 6-2 over Trklja. Central Oklahoma also won fourth singles where 21st-ranked Grace Chadick bested Labat 6-2, 6-3.

Luciana Galves was up a set at fifth singles when play was called.

Columbus State will take on fourth-ranked Nova Southeastern University on Sunday in the consolation round at noon.
