No. 5 Lady Cougars Fall in Consolation Round of ITA National Indoor Championship

EDMOND, Okla. - The No. 5 Columbus State University women's tennis team continued play in the 2022 ITA National Indoor Championship on Sunday, losing a 5-1 match to No. 4 Nova Southeastern University in the consolation round. The tournament is being played at Edmon Center Court in Edmond, Okla.

The Lady Cougars (3-3) will compete in the seventh-place match on Monday against No. 12 West Florida.

Nova (7-1) started the day strong, taking both second and third doubles to grab control. Second doubles was the first to finish up as Julie Razafindranaly and Zala Dovinik defeated Agostina Bigotti and Neila Trklja 6-4. The Sharks wrapped up the first point of the day after Karolina Snita and Diane Arbelet-Follin took down Sara Ramirez Goncalves and Yelena Labat 6-3 in the third spot.

The 16th-ranked duo of Valentina Abrile and Mariana Ramirez were leading the second-ranked duo of Chantal Nosievici and Natalie Espinal at first doubles when play was called.

Nova moved in front 2-0 after Razafindranaly won a quick 6-2, 6-1 match at first singles over Abrile. However, Trklja got CSU on the board at second singles with a 6-4, 6-2 upset over ninth-ranked Espinal.

The Sharks would wrap up the match from there though. Snita took down Ramirez 6-2, 6-2 at third doubles before fourth and fifth singles finished simultaneously. Follin-Arbelete won at the fourth spot 7-6 (6-2), 6-3 over Luciana Galves, while Dovnik was a 6-1, 7-6 (6-0) winner of Labat at fourth singles.

Ramirez was up a set and in a second-set tiebreak over 11th-ranked Nika Kozar when play was called at sixth singles.
