The Columbus State University softball team have new opponents for the opening day of the Gulf Shores Invitational on Friday, Feb. 4. The changes were made after tournament officials were forced to reshuffle the schedule due to weather forecasts. CSU will now take on Barry University at 3 p.m. before closing the day with Nova Southeastern University.Â
COLUMBUSÂ - The Columbus State University softball team will open the 2022 season at the Gulf Shores Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala. on Friday, Feb. 4. The Cougars will play four different teams in two days.

Cougar Notes
- Â Columbus State is coming off of a very successful 2021 season, finishing third in the Peach Belt Conference with a 30-14 overall record and 14-7 inside the conference play
- The Cougars begin the season tied for second in the PBC preseason poll with Young Harris. 2021 All-Americans, Hannah Rose Corbin and Caitlyn Canady were selected to the preseason All-PBC, along with Katelyn Cooper
- Inside the circle, Corbin finished 2021 20-9 with 211 strikeouts. Offensively, the slugger hit .400 with 16 home runs, 39 RBIs and scored 37 runs
- Canady led the Cougars in hitting with a .421 batting average and was inside the top-20 in the nation in total hits with 64 and smacked 10 doubles, five triples and two homers
- Cooper posted a .362 batting average with seven doubles, one triple and two homers. She scored 29 times with 27 RBIs while holding a .485 on-base percentage
Charger Notes
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville is ranked 23rd in the nation by the NFCA after finishing the 2021 season with a 32-14 and 23-7 in the Gulf South Conference
- Kiara Akles led the Charger offense with a .368 batting average. She recorded 47 RBIs, 46 hits, 12 homers and five doubles.
- Inside the circle, Layton Murphy recorded a 2.41 ERA, winning 16 games and tallying 90 strikeouts
Flame Notes
- The Flames finished 2021 with a 17-23 overall record and 14-16 in the Gulf South Conference
- Taylor De Adder hit .384, posting 43 hits, 36 RBIs, seven doubles and six home runs
- De Adder and Madison Barnett are the pitchers to look out for as they both recorded ERAs under 4.50
