Box Score 2 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Columbus State University softball team dropped a doubleheader against Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday, March 15.
The Cougars fall to 11-12 (4-2 PBC) and the Sharks improve to 17-7 (3-3 SSC).
GAME ONE: NSU 1, CSU 0
The Cougars couldn't plate a run against the Sharks' starting pitcher Ashley Connor (8-1), who only gave up three hits in the complete-game effort.
Columbus State came close to scoring in the first as
Paige Vincent and
Hannah Rose Corbin hit back-to-back singles.
Nova Southeastern scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an Allie Janowiak RBI single through the left side.
The only other hit CSU could get off of Connor was from
Morgan Elston in the fourth, ripping a single up the middle.
Corbin (9-4) earned the loss inside the circle, allowing five hits, one run and striking out three Sharks.
GAME TWO: NSU 8, CSU 0 (6 Innings)
Nova Southeastern starting pitcher Emily Hess (5-3) threw a no-hitter in the Sharks' 8-0 shutout win over the Cougars.
Corbin and Vincent were the only Cougars who reached base in the late night. Corbin walked in the first and Vincent got on by a shortstop error in the fourth.
The Sharks scored two runs in the second inning by a defensive error and a Sydnee Lageyre RBI triple into left center field. Lagerye did it again in the fourth, smacking a two-run RBI double to left center again, making it a 4-0 ballgame.
NSU got on top of CSU starter
Haylee Folds in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to end the game early. Ryleigh Langwell ripped a two-run RBI double down the third base line, then Emerson Morris finished the game up with a two-run RBI double to left center.
Folds is now 1-3 after giving up 11 hits. The sophomore struck out three and walked four.

Columbus State will be back in action Wednesday, March 16 with a doubleheader against Barry University starting at 5 p.m. in Miami Shores, Fla.
