COLUMBUS - The No. 8 Columbus State University women's tennis team grabbed a 6-1 victory over Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia College Saturday afternoon at the Walden Tennis Center. The Lady Cougars are now 11-4 (3-0 PBC) and the Bobcats are 11-4 (1-2 PBC).
Columbus State swept doubles competition. Playing in the first spot, the duo of
Valentina Abrile and
Mariana Ramirez beat Emilia Richter and Emma Fleming 6-3. In second doubles,
Neila Trklja and
Agostina Bigotti powered over the team of Ashton Morrison and Jordan Bowie 6-0. And in third doubles,
Yelena Labat and
Sara Ramirez won a close 7-6 match over Chiara Santoro and Sofia Shing.
Trklja and Shing went head-to-head in the top spot for singles, going into three sets. Shing got the best of Trklja in the first set, winning 6-4, but Trklja fought back and beat her 6-2, 10-6 in the final two rounds.
M. Ramirez beat Richter 6-1, 6-1, respectfully at second singles. Abrile was victorious over Fleming, taking set one 6-1 and set two 7 -5.Â
After losing the first set 7-6, Labat went into three sets with Santoro and took the last two 6-2, 10-6 to give her the victory.
To wrap up the Lady Cougar singles victories,
Luciana Galves beat Shradha Chhabra 6-3, 6-4.Â
