COLUMBUS - The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to eight matches following a 6-1 win over the University of West Florida on Sunday at the Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus.

It's CSU's (12-4) second win of the year over UWF as the Lady Cougars defeated the Argonauts at the D2 ITA National Indoor Championship in late February.

Columbus State set the tone for the day in doubles play, capturing both first and second doubles. At first doubles, it was 44th-ranked Valentina Abrile and Mariana Ramirez taking down Karolina Silwanowicz and Giuliana Sacco 6-3. The 47th-ranked team of Agostina Bigotti and Neila Trklja were the other CSU pair to find a win as they defeated Sara Yigin and Mayumi Saguchi 6-2 in the second spot.

Third doubles was unfinished, however, Yelena Labat and Sara Ramirez were leading Irene Rucuenco and Raissa Wagner 5-4.

West Florida (8-7) found a win in singles play at the second spot. In a ranked showdown, 43rd-ranked Recuenco downed 73rd-ranked Mariana Ramirez 6-2, 6-1.

The rest of CSU's lineup collected wins, including 11th-ranked Trklja at first singles. The sophomore found a 6-1, 6-1 decision over 63rd-ranked Yigin for her fifth win against a ranked opponent this season.

Abrile had a dominating 6-1, 6-4 win over Saguchi at third singles, while Labat won 6-3, 6-2 against Silwanowicz in the fourth position. Luciana Galves also recorded a straight-set win, breezing over Wagner 6-2, 7-6 at fifth singles.

Bigotti had to work a little harder than her teammates but still walked away with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 victory against Luiza Daud at sixth singles.
