COLUMBUS - The No. 9 Columbus State University baseball team scored a combined 22 runs in Saturday's doubleheader against Claflin University to give the Cougars their first Peach Belt Conference sweep of the season.
After the two wins, Columbus State improves to 17-3 (3-0 PBC), while Claflin falls to 1-5 (0-3 PBC).
Game 1: CSU 12, CU 2
Entering the fourth inning with a 3-0 lead, Claflin's slugger Steve Joyner hit a two-run home run to minimize CSU's lead to one run.
In the next half inning, the Cougars answered with five runs to grab an 8-2 lead over the Panthers.

Win Johns each ripped home runs in the inning to help pace CSU, with Johns' being a three-run bomb.
Isaac Bouton extended Columbus State's lead to 9-2 with a sacrifice fly that scored
Derek Wylie. Following Bouton, Johns collected another RBI with a hard hit single to third base to score McDade and
Connor Kirley.
Johns finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Bouton, Brooks, Minter, Meadows, Brabston, Wylie and McDade each collected one hit apiece, with Meadows adding two RBIs.
Noah Windhorst (3-1) earned the win on the mound after pitching seven strong innings. The right-hander recorded nine strikeouts, one walk and allowed two runs.
Game 2: CSU 10, CU 2
Columbus State scored four runs in the second and six in the fourth to complete the sweep of the Panthers.
Wylie hit an RBI single to third base to open the scoring with Brabston crossing home plate. Bouton then jacked a three-run homer later in the inning, making it a 4-0 ballgame.
In the fourth with runners on second and third, Johns, Brooks and Minter had back-to-back-to-back RBI hits for the Cougars. Johns started it with ripping a double down the left field line to score Kirley easily. Brooks kept the rally alive with an RBI single to third base, scoring Bouton. Minter then jacked a double to left center to plate both Johns and Brooks. Minter scored on a passed ball, giving CSU a 10-0 lead.
Claflin got two runs back in the fifth with two RBI singles.

Colton Joyner (3-0) pitched 4.2 innings and struck out five batters to get the win.
