ROME, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's track team had a strong finish at the 2022 Victor Ice Breaker Dual, placing third out of 11 teams. The women's finished 11th out of 14. The event was hosted by Berry College.
Men's
Tereil Mitchum,
Savian Taylor and
Jackson Fulks earned first place finishes at the event for the Cougars.Â
Mitchum, a freshman, won the men's discus throw with a 33.52 meter throw and placed fifth in the shot put, posting a 12.68 meter throw.
Luke Herron also placed third in the discus throw as the freshman threw a 31.18 meter mark.
Sophomore Taylor crushed the men's 800 meter run. The sophomore earned first place in the event in 1:54.55 minutes, with teammate
Blake Lewis finishing third in 1:57.72.
Fulks earned first in the men's 200 meter dash, pacing past his competitors and crossing the line with a time of 21.76 seconds. The junior also recorded a third place finish in the men's long jump, jumping 6.57 meters.
Gary Grimes recorded a second place finish in the men's 110 meter hurdles, crossing the line at 15.25 seconds.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team earned a second place finish with a time of 3:28.41 minutes. The team included
Jailen Dalton,
Colin French,
Ervin Thomas and Taylor.
Women's
The Lady Cougars finished 11th out of 14 teams with freshmanÂ
Alesia Johnson grabbing a second place finish in the women's 400 meter dash.
Johnson was just .50 seconds behind winner Nia Harris of Shorter University, as Johnson finished with a time of 1.00.40 minutes.
Amani Abraham placed sixth in the event, posting a 1:03.44 mark.
Freshman
Cyan Green earned third place in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.77 meters.
Royal DeLay grabbed a fourth place finish in the women's 800 meter run in 2:30.79 minutes.
Macey Voorhies also grabbed a sixth place finish in the women's 1500 meter run as the senior ran it in 5:03.78 minutes.
In the women's hammer throw,
Kailyn Thomas posted a 38.57 mark to give her fifth place.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team grabbed second place, finishing the relay in 49.84 seconds, just .41 seconds behind the winners of the University of West Georgia. The team included De'aisha Stephens,
Savannah Horace,
Eronda Doss and Tamia Kelly.
