DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Three standout performances highlighted day two action for the Columbus State men's track and field squad at the Peach Belt Conference Championships in Daytona Beach.
Columbus State finished fourth out of seven teams with a total of 121 points after two days of action in the Sunshine State.
Joshua Dare,
Tereil Mitchum, and
Dante Walls represented well, garnering gold medals on Tuesday.
Dare led the way with a stellar performance in the throws, gathering first in the discus with a toss of 49.07 meters. Dare also gathered recognition for being named the Outstanding Field Athlete presented by College Ave. He finished the two-day meet with huge throws in both the hammer and discus events.
As for the rest of the throws, Mitchum marked a throw of 36.10m followed by 35.57m from
Jacere Cooper for 10th and 15th, respectively. Mitchum gathered the top spot on the podium in the shot put with a toss of 14.88m with Cooper (14.88m) in second and
Raylene Magby (13.52m) in fourth.
Wrapping up the field events, Bradon Dodd took ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.82m while
Joey Turner (12.56m) and Nabeel Tufeiru (12.54m) finished in 10th and 11th, respectively.
On the track, hurdles were no tough obstacle for Walls as he raced to a first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.44s. He also captured sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.23s to add points to the Cougars' total. Mark Ravenscraft went for a time of 55.50s and fifth in the 400 hurdles followed by
Tristen Cole in sixth with a time of 55.64s.
Lastly, the squad of
Anthony Brown Jr.,
Ethan Sanders,
Tyler Thomas, and
Jayden Powell raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:21.20 in the 4x400 relay.
In addition to the on-track festivities, the PBC also recognized Mitchum as a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Logan Fisher was also the Elite 18 award recipient for having the best GPA at the conference meet.
