AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team won the final game of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia Southwestern University Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hurricanes 6-2 at Lady Hurricane Field.
The Cougars improve to 22-21 (11-7 PBC) while the Hurricanes fall to 27-18 (10-7 PBC).Â
Columbus State opened up the scoring in the top of the third thanks to a two-run home run from
Hannah Rose Corbin.
The Cougars never let the lead slip away and added three more runs in the fifth off of three hits in a row from
Kenzie Bayer,
Madeline Parker and
Morgan Elston.Â
Bayer pulled off a squeeze to score
Caitlyn Canady, then Parker and Elston ripped back-to-back RBI doubles to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead.
GSW added a run in the bottom of the fifth off of an RBI double.Â
Corbin delivered again in the top of the seventh, hitting her second homer of the game to make it a 6-2 ballgame.Â
Canady went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Corbin went 2-for-4 with two homers.
Paige Vincent, Bayer and Elston also added two hits apiece.Â
Corbin earned the win inside the circle after striking out five. She is now 15-8.Â
