COLUMBUS - A three-run homer by
Morgan Elston helped the Columbus State University softball team to a crucial 7-3 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College on Friday at Cougar Field.
CSU improves to 23-21 (12-7 PBC) with the win, while GC falls to 11-28 (3-16 PBC).
Columbus State scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the early lead over Georgia College.
Kenzie Bayer started the scoring with an RBI double into right center field to score
Hannah Rose Corbin. It was then Elston who made it 4-0 with a three-run bomb over the left field fence.
After a CSU fielding error, the Bobcats were able to rally in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three unearned runs to cut the Cougar lead to one.
The Cougars weren't finished as the team scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bayer and
Madeline Parker each delivered singles to put runners on first and second for Elston. Elston would then collect her fourth RBI of the game, ripping a single up the middle to plate Bayer. Elston later scored on a throwing error by the catcher, making it 6-3.
Katelyn Cooper got the Cougars to seven runs after hitting an RBI single to the shortstop.
Bayer and Elston each posted two hits for CSU. Corbin (16-8) earned the win inside the circle after striking out nine.

The Cougars and Bobcats will conclude the three-game series on Saturday, April 23 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Cougar Field.
