Softball to Host PBC Series Against Young Harris

The Cougars and Mountain Lions will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team will host Peach Belt Conference contender Young Harris College for a three-game series starting Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.

Series Schedule:
Saturday, April 9 - 1 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 10 - 1 p.m.

Cougar Notes
  • The Cougars are 18-17 (8-4 PBC) after dropping its first three-game series this season to Lander University last weekend. The Cougars and Bearcats are tied for second place in the PBC standings entering the weekend
  • Hannah Rose Corbin is leading CSU with a .378 batting average, 10 doubles, a .689 slugging percentage, .556 on base percentage and 36 walks. She has reached base in 16 straight games. Corbin is also the threat inside the circle posting a 2.73 ERA with 138 strikeouts and a 1.48 WHIP.
  • Caitlyn Canady is also hitting over the .300 mark with a .325 batting average. She leads the Cougars with 41 hits, 31 runs scored and 126 at bats. She had an 11-game hitting streak snapped last weekend, which was the longest streak by a CSU player this year.
  • CSU pitcher Jessica Lopez set a season-high with seven strikeouts in game two against the Bearcats on April 2.
  • Columbus State is looking to begin another home winning streak after a four-game streak was snapped in a 12-8 loss to the University of West Florida on Wednesday, March 30.
Mountain Lion Notes
  • Young Harris is 16-15 (7-8 PBC) and is fourth in the conference standings behind Georgia Southwestern University. The Mountain Lions just won a PBC series against Flagler College last weekend.
  • Grace Young leads the Mountain Lion offense with a .384 batting average, 33 hits and a .465 on base percentage. She went 4-for-10 in the series against Flagler including a 3-for-4, 2 RBI performance in game three.
  • Shea Bayreuther is the home run hitter for YHC, posting six bombs and a .680 slugging percentage. She is hitting .333 on the season.
  • Kylie Ferguson and Jill Dixon are the two key pitchers for the Mountain Lions. Ferguson (5-4) posts a 3.99 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched. Dixon is 5-7 and records a 4.48 ERA in 68.1 IP with a team-high 60 strikeouts.

The Cougars lost a doubleheader to Young Harris on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in Young Harris, Ga. YHC won the games 6-2 and 7-3.
