No. 3 Cougars set to host Homecoming match against GSW

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.

COLUMBUS - The No. 3 Columbus State University women's soccer team is back at home on Saturday, Oct. 1 to host Georgia Southwestern University at the Walden Soccer Complex. It's the 2022 Homecoming match for the Cougars with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

ABOUT CSU
•  Columbus State (7-1-1, 3-0-1 PBC) returns home after a 2-0 win over USC Beaufort on Wednesday to extend its four-match winning streak.
• The Cougars haven't lost a match since falling 2-0 to Embry-Riddle University on Sept. 2. ERAU is ranked second in the nation in the latest United Soccer Association poll. 
• Columbus State leads DII in corner kicks per game (9.89). The Cougars also have the third highest scoring offense (3.56 goals/match), and have scored the sixth most goals (32). 
• CSU has posted back-to-back shutouts and has allowed just four goals so far in nine matches.
• Lizzie Hedrick leads the nation in goals-against average with a .192 mark. She is fourth in save percentage (.941).
• Twelve different players have now scored for Columbus State in 2022.
• CSU and GSW will be the lone match in the PBC on Saturday due to the effects of Hurricane Ian.

GSW NOTES
• Georgia Southwestern (4-4-3, 1-3-1) enters Columbus looking for its first win since Sept. 14. Since that date, the Hurricanes are 0-2-2.
• GSW fell 1-0 on Wednesday at Young Harris College. It was the second straight scoreless match for the Canes.
• Krystal Elie leads the team and is tied for 10th in the PBC with four goals. 
• Payton Johnson is also an offensive threat, leading the Canes with nine points (3 G, 3 A). 
• Grace O'Shaughnessy holds a 1.18 GAA in nine starts for the Hurricanes. 

SERIES HISTORY 
• The Cougars are perfect all-time against Georgia Southwestern, holding a 16-0-0 record. 
• CSU defeated the Hurricanes twice last season, outscoring them 13-0 in the two wins.
