Basketball to host North Georgia

The women tip off at 1:30p.m. and the men at 3:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host Peach Belt Conference longtime rival North Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 21 inside the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.

For the women, CSU (9-6, 3-4 PBC) lost their last time out against Lander on Jan. 18 after a great win at home versus Augusta on Jan. 14. Columbus State is currently in sixth in the PBC standing and within striking distance of hosting during the PBC tournament. Meanwhile, UNG (14-2, 6-1 PBC) is as dominate as always winning their last four contests and is currently in second place in the PBC standings.

The Cougars are leading in scoring by their three fantastic sophomores Emilia Tenbrock, Olonna Rawls, and Amber Abusbeih with Tenbrock averaging 14.7 points per game, Rawls averaging 12.5 points per game, and Abusbeih averaging 12 points per game. As a team they average the most points per game in the Peach Belt and make the second most 3-pointers per game in the conference. The Nighthawks offense is just as lethal as the Cougars and are led by Caroline Martin who averages 17.8 points per game while she also shoots 38 percent from three-point range.

For the men, CSU (9-8, 2-5 PBC) lost their last time out to Lander on Jan. 18 and are hungry for a win in front of their home fans. UNG (12-2, 5-1 PBC) is looking to continue their two-game winning streak as they beat Flagler on Jan. 18 their last time out.

Columbus State is lead by one of the most dominate big men in the conference, Nelson Haskin. Nelson is averaging 11.1 points per game and is bringing down 7.1 boards a game. As CSU Coach Robert Moore has said time and time again they are win by committee and get points from anyone and everyone as they have six players averaging five points or more a game. The Nighthawks are led by Frank Champion who is second in the PBC for points per game with 19.6 and averages 10 rebounds a game. He is joined by AJ White and Giancarlo Bastianoni who both average over 10 points per game.
