COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's and women's basketball teams will tip-off the 2023 home schedule against Peach Belt Conference contender, Clayton State University, on Saturday, Jan. 7 inside the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center. The Lady Cougars will start at 1:30 p.m. and the men's team will follow at 3:30 p.m.
Both teams are entering Saturday with big victories over conference foe Flagler College. The Lady Cougars beat the Lady Saints 86-57 and the Cougars won 87-82 Wednesday night in St. Augustine, Fla.
About the Lady Lakers:
- Posts a 6-5 record overall and a 1-1 PBC record, losing to USC Aiken 71-70 and beating Young Harris 69-66 on Jan. 4.
- Audrey McElhaney is the leading scorer for Clayton, with 122 points so far this season. She averages 11.1 per game.
- McElhaney is also aggressive on the boards, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game and tallies 72 this season.
About the Lady Cougars:
- Posts an 8-3 record overall and a 2-1 PBC record, beating Flagler and Lander, and losing to Augusta by one point.
- Amber Abusbeih leads CSU in scoring with 125 points and averages a team-best 12.5 per game.
- Emilia Tenbrock is the leader on the boards, averaging 6.0 rebounds per game and tallies 60 this season.
About the Lakers:
- Posts a 2-10 record overall and a 0-2 PBC record, losing to Aiken and Young Harris.
- Christian Chambers leads the Lakers in scoring with 173 points, averaging 14.4 per game.
- Jalen Shaw is a monster on the boards, grabbing a total 102 rebounds and averaging 12.8 per game.
About the Cougars:
- Posts an 8-5 record overall and a 1-2 PBC record, beating Flagler and losing to Lander and Augusta.
- Daniel Melvin leads the Cougars in scoring with 142 points, averaging 10.9 per game.
- Nelson Haskin is the most aggressive on the boards, tallying a total of 89 rebounds and averaging 6.8 per game.
