COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's basketball team defeated Albany State University 73-54 Tuesday night at home after a big 21-point fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars advance to 2-0 on the season with the win.
The Lady Cougars trailed the Golden Rams 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, but they turned up their game in the second, taking the lead and maintaining it throughout the remainder of the game. With the defense limiting Albany State's offense to 9 points in the second quarter, Columbus State led 34-28 at the half. Both offenses came out of the locker rooms fired up, with ASU scoring 17 points and CSU scoring 18. But the Lady Cougars took off in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Golden Rams 21-9 and shooting 53% from the field to capture their second win of the season, 73-54.Â
Letiya Reeves led the way with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the second game in a row.
Olivia West also finished the night in double figures with 11 points and two steals.
Lacy Robins continues to be a force on defense for the Lady Cougars, grabbing 12 rebounds, adding 4 blocks, and grabbing 2 steals in the win. Robbins also finished in double digits after scoring 10 points on offense.Â
The bench scored a total of 16 points, with
Zuzanna Rudenko accounting for half of those with 9.
Simone Lett, who combined for 7 points and 3 rebounds for the Lady Cougars, also contributed to the team's success inside the paint.
