AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team (2-1) fell to No. 4 ranked Catawba College (1-0) 83-72 in their first game of the GSW Classic Friday night.
The Lady Cougars started strong, outscoring the Indians 26-20 in the game's opening quarter. Catawba came back in the second quarter, outscoring Columbus State 24-11, making the score 44-37 going into the locker rooms at the half. At the end of the third quarter, the Indians had a 17-point lead, 71-54. The Lady Cougars went on a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter, cutting the Indians lead to 71-60 on a three-pointer from
Amber Abusbeih. The Lady Cougars never gave up their fight but could never regain the lead after the first quarter.
Three Lady Cougars scored in double figures, led by
Letiya Reeves once again. On the floor, Reeves continues to be a source for CSU, grabbing 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals on the night. Senior
Amber Abusbeih was the second Lady Cougar to score in double digits with 14 points and 3 assists.
Simone Lett scored 14 points off the bench, going 6-8 in the field.
As a team, Columbus State's bench outscored Catawba 19-10. On the night, both teams struggled with turnovers, with the Lady Cougars forcing 25 but giving up 22 to the Indians.
