Softball Run Rules Converse

Hannah Rose Corbin pitched a no-hitter and Brooke Miller hit two homers in the 12-0 win.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team opened the 2023 season with a big 12-0 victory over Converse University Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field. Hannah Rose Corbin pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and Brooke Miller went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs.

The Cougars came out swinging, scoring five runs on four hits in the first inning to take the early lead. Three doubles in a row from Corbin, Elyse Ambrose and Kenzie Bayer made it 3-0. Miller then stepped up to the plate and smacked a two-run shot over the left field fence to put CSU up by five. 

CSU took a 10-0 lead in the second inning with a Madeline Parker single to right field and Caitlyn Canady scoring off of an fielding error by the right fielder. Parker then scored thanks to an RBI single into right field from Laura Harris. Miller came up big again, jacking her second homer of the game, this one being a three-run shot down the left field line. 

In the third, a pinch hit two-run RBI single into center field from freshman Mary Catherine Sorrell made it 12-0.

NOTES:
  • The Cougars recorded 12 hits
  • Corbin and Sorrell each had two RBIs
  • Freshmen Sorrell and Holly Lyn each tallied their first collegiate hits
  • Canady, Parker, Ambrose and Miller each scored two runs
  • Corbin faced 16 batters and struck out 13
UP NEXT:
The Cougars will complete the final day of the Red-White-Blue Classic on Monday, Feb. 13 at Cougar Field. CSU will play at 11:30 a.m. against the University of Montevallo and at 5:30 p.m. against Tuskegee University.
