Late game lay-up from Lederrius Jones downs the Bobcats

CSU wins on senior night 67-65

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's basketball team defeats the Georgia College and State Bobcats 67-65 on Saturday afternoon. CSU ends the season with momentum into the playoffs with a record of 15-13 and 8-10 in PBC play. GCSU finishes their season 9-17 overall and 5-12 in conference play.

Columbus State ends the season with a bang. The Cougars complete the seasons sweep of the Bobcats with a down to the last shot thriller. Both teams shot identical from the field in the first half, CSU (33%) and GCSU (35%). Georgia College made one more three-pointer than the Cougars did in the first half in which CSU found themselves at a 33-28 deficit at the half.

The second half was a wild one. There were six times the game was tied and there were seven lead changes. Jehloni James stepped up for CSU all season and he led the Cougars in points with 16 and rebounds with 11. Daniel Melvin finished his great regular season with 13 points this game and Kalen Clifton scored 10.

After a steal with 40 seconds left in the game, Georgia College tied up the game with a floater in the paint. With the game tied at 65-65, coach Robert Moore put the ball in the hands of his seasoned senior, Lederrius Jones, with 30 seconds left. Lederrius faked to his right then cut left towards the bucket with the time ticking. With a quick drive into the lane, he put the ball up with his left hand and used some spin to make the bucket and to lift the Cougars past their rivals in his final regular season game.
