GREENWOOD, Sc. - The Columbus State University baseball team loses the last game of the series against Lander 13-10. The Cougars suffer their first conference loss of the season and their overall record is now 11-3 and 5-1 in the PBC. Lander improves to 4-10 on the season and 3-3 in PBC play.
Columbus State and Lander had a slugfest on Sunday, Feb. 26, as both teams combined for 23 runs and 25 hits. CSU got the scoring started in the top of the first with rbi singles from
Will Wilbanks and
Colby Brabston. LU answered quickly by putting up a five spot on the Cougars in the bottom half of the inning. Both teams scored in the second inning making the score 8-4 in favor of Lander.
CSU scored in the fourth inning with rbi's from
Will Wilbanks and
Derek Wylie. Both had multi-hit games and mutli-rbi games. After an
Isaac Bouton homer in the sixth, Lander put the game out of reach with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Cougars mounted a comeback late as they scored three runs in the top of the ninth and they brought the tying run to the plate but CSU missed a game-tying homerun by the matter of a couple feet.
