COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team defeated West Chester University Sunday, Feb. 26 3-0 as junior pitcher
Jessica Lopez pitched another 7.0 inning shutout of the weekend. The Cougars improve to 8-4 and Lopez is now 4-0 inside the circle.
The Cougars scored in the third and fourth inning and Lopez held the West Chester offense from scoring by only allowing three hits, walking zero batters and striking out seven.
In the bottom of the third, freshman
Kara Wegienka walked and freshman
Emilie Scalise pinch ran for her. Scalise stole second then junior
Caitlyn Canady stepped to the plate and ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Scalise from second.
One inning later,
Hannah Rose Corbin smacked a single to left-center field and advanced to second base on a throwing error by the Golden Ram's centerfielder.
Elyse Ambrose gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead, jacking her third home run of the weekend over the left field fence.
CSU only posted four hits as a team with Canady, Corbin, Ambrose and
Kenzie Bayer each tallying one.

Columbus State will host Southern Wesleyan University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Cougar Field on CSU's main campus. The first pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m.
