COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team swept Southern Wesleyan University 8-0 and 8-2 Tuesday, Feb. 28 on Cougar Field. Columbus State improves to 10-4 and Southern Wesleyan falls to 2-16.
Game 1 - CSU 8, SWU 0 (5 inn.)
- Haylee Folds pitched a perfect game in the first game, striking out six batters and not allowing any walks. There wasn't one base runner in the five-inning game. Folds is now 2-1 inside the circle.
- CSU scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Laura Harris jacking a two-run home run and Brooke Miller ripping a three-run home run, Kenzie Bayer hitting an RBI single down the left field line, and Harris making her second appearance of the inning, hitting an RBI double to right center.
- Miller made the run-rule happen in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to deep center field, plating Anna Waites.
- The Cougars tallied 12 hits, with Bayer hitting a triple, Harris and Caitlyn Canady hitting doubles and Harris and Miller ripping home runs.
- Canady, Hannah Rose Corbin, Harris, Bayer and Grace Kiser each recorded two hits.
Game 2 - CSU 8, SWU 2
- Jessica Lopez received the victory inside the circle and is now 5-0. She struck out five batters and allowed five hits.
- Elyse Ambrose smacked a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Cougars an early lead.
- Lindsey Patton made it 4-0 in the second with an RBI single through the right side, plating Nova Wright.
- In the third Corbin jacked a solo bomb over the center field fence to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
- Wright stole home in the fourth when the catcher attempted to throw-out Canady at second base, giving CSU a 6-0 lead.
- In the sixth, Miller hit another RBI sacrifice fly to plate Paige Vincent, and Corbin doubled down the right field line, scoring Canady.
- CSU tallied 11 hits with Corbin going 3-for-3 and Wright 2-for-3.

The Cougars will travel to Montevallo, Ala. for another nonconference doubleheader against the University of Montevallo on Wednesday, March 1 starting at 4 p.m.
