MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Columbus State University softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Montevallo Wednesday evening on the road. The Falcons took game one 17-14 and the Cougars won 17-5 in the nightcap. CSU now holds an overall record of 11-5.
Game 1 - CSU 14, UM 17
It was a home run derby in the first game of the doubleheader as there were 10 homers between both teams, Columbus State posting four and Montevallo hitting six.
- Trailing 11-0 after the third inning, CSU scored seven runs in the fourth to minimize the Falcons' lead, featuring a two-run homer from Elyse Ambrose, a three-run RBI triple from Caitlyn Canady and a two-run home run by Brooke Miller.
- Montevallo hit homers in the fourth to make it 15-7.
- In the fifth, Kenzie Bayer and Miller both ripped homers, making it a 15-11 ball game.
- The Falcons scored two more runs in the fifth inning with another home run.
- Katelyn Cooper made it 14-17 with a three-run RBI triple.
- CSU had 16 hits with Bayer leading the offense going 3-for-5 and Miller tallying five RBIs.
- Haylee Folds drops to 2-2 on the mound.
Game 2 - CSU 17, UM 5
The Cougars scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to break the 5-5 ballgame, securing the win.
- CSU got on board first when Ambrose hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, plating Canady.
- UM hit two solo home runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead.
- Bayer hit her second homer of the day in the third; a two-run shot making the score 3-2.
- The Falcons responded in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run, giving UM a 5-3 lead.
- RBI singles from Cooper and Miller in the fourth made it a tie 5-5 ballgame.
- CSU tallied 12 runs off of eight hits in the sixth inning.
- Bayer and Corbin each posted three hits, with Bayer posting four RBIs and Corbin, Ambrose and Lindsey Patton tallying three RBIs.
- Ambrose, Bayer, Corbin, Harris and Patton each recorded doubles and Mary-Catherine Sorrell stole two bases.
- Corbin received the win inside the circle and is now 4-3.

Columbus State will begin Peach Belt Conference play on Friday, March 3 against Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Ga. at 5 p.m.
