Softball Splits Doubleheader with Georgia College

CSU won the first game 4-2 but dropped the second 0-8.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team split a doubleheader against Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia College State & University on Saturday, March 4. The Cougars and Bobcats are both now 12-6 overall, with CSU being 1-1 in conference play and GCSU 2-3.

GAME 1 - CSU 4, GCSU 2

The Cougars scored two runs in the first and two in the seventh to secure the first PBC win of the season. With the win, Hannah Rose Corbin earned her fifth victory inside the circle, striking out four in 7.0 innings of work.

NOTES:
  • Two RBI ground outs in the first inning from Lindsey Patton and Grace Kiser put CSU up 2-0 early.
  • GCSU tied the game in the third with an RBI single to right center and a sacrifice fly out.
  • In the seventh inning, Corbin and Ambrose hit back-to-back RBI singles, plating Laura Harris and Madeline Parker to put the Cougars up 4-2.
  • Corbin only walked one batter and allowed six hits on the mound.
  • Ambrose led CSU going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
GAME 2 - CSU 0, GCSU 8

Georgia College had a 3-0 lead after the fourth inning, scoring one run in the second, third and fourth innings. The Bobcats put the run-rule into affect in the bottom of the sixth after scoring five runs.

NOTES:
  • Jessica Lopez received the loss on the mound after allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs. She struck out six batters in 5.1 innings.
  • CSU committed three fielding errors, collected five hits and left seven runners on base.
  • Caitlyn Canady, Parker, Corbin, Ambrose and Patton each tallied one hit.

Columbus State will play the last game of the three-game series against the Bobcats on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. in Milledgeville, Ga.
