COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team defeated Peach Belt Conference contender Lander University 11-3 Friday, March 10 at Cougar Field. The Cougars improve to 13-7 (2-2 PBC) and Lander falls to 15-6 (6-1 PBC).
Hannah Rose Corbin earned the victory inside the circle and now posts a 6-4 record. She struck out six batters and allowed three runs and seven hits.
The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Madeline Parker ripped a double to center field to plate
Caitlyn Canady.
Kenzie Bayer then hit a two-run RBI single to center, scoring Parker and Corbin. Bayer made it a 4-0 ballgame, scoring off of a
Laura Harris double to right center.
The Bearcats got on board in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs off of a Gracie Derrick double.
In the bottom half of the inning, Corbin opened up a home run derby after smacking a solo shot over the center field fence to put CSU ahead 5-3. One pitch later,
Elyse Ambrose ripped a solo homer to left field.
Brooke Miller singled then Bayer continued the derby with a two-run shot, giving the Cougars an 8-3 lead.
Ambrose hit her second home run of the day in the fourth, this one being a three-run shot, making it 11-3.
NOTES:
- Parker, Ambrose, Miller, Bayer and Harris each posted two hits
- Ambrose and Bayer each recorded four RBIs
- As a team, CSU tallied 13 hits

Columbus State will play a doubleheader against Lander on Saturday, March 11 at Cougar Field starting at 1 p.m.
