COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team swept the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander University on Saturday, March 11 at Cougar Field. In the second game versus the Bearcats, senior
Hannah Rose Corbin tied the all-time strikeout record at CSU (684) while also earning the 8-5 victory inside the circle.
Game 1 - CSU 5, LU 3
- CSU got on board in the first after Brooke Miller walked and Caitlyn Canady scored from third on the passed ball
- In the second, the Cougars scored two runs off of an overthrow from Lander's short stop to first base, scoring Anna Waites, and then a bases loaded walk from Elyse Ambrose plated Canady
- Lander tied the game at three in the fourth off of one hit, one walk and one sacrifice fly out
- In the bottom of the fourth, Madeline Parker put down an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Katelyn Cooper
- Cooper made it a 5-3 ballgame in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle, plating Laura Harris
Game 2 - CSU 8, LU 5
- The Bearcats took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first from a three-run RBI double down the left field line
- Canady ripped a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to minimize Lander's lead to only two runs
- CSU took a 4-3 lead in the second thanks to a solo bomb from Kenzie Bayer and a run two-run RBI single from Corbin
- Parker scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to make the score 5-3
- Bayer smacked her second homer of the day in the fifth, giving the Cougars a 6-3 lead. Canady and Corbin extended the lead to 8-4 with RBI singles
- Corbin is now tied with Darby Demarest for the all-time strikeout record at CSU with 684 career strikeouts. Corbin struck out five batters in the win
