COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team split the double-header against USC Aiken on Saturday, March 18. CSU is now 19-5 on the season and 11-3 in PBC play. USC suffers their first conference game loss and they are now 18-7 and 10-1 in conference play.
GAME 1: CSU 1, USCA 0
Two of the best pitchers in the conference in game one of the double-header were junior
Noah Windhorst went toe-to-toe with Joel Haney from USC Aiken. This pitching matchup did not disappoint as only one run was scored today. Coming off a no-hitter last weekend, Windhorst followed up with yet another dominate outing where he pitched a complete game shutout for the second week in a row. Noah is now second in the PBC in era with 1.52 and innings pitched with 47.1.
The Cougars scored their lone run from a reliable source. Junior right fielder,
Derek Wylie blasted his 12th homerun of the season in the sixth inning. The Cougar slugger leads the PBC with 12 homerun's and he also leads the Peach Belt Conference with 39 RBI's.
GAME 2: CSU 3, USCA 4
Columbus State got the scoring started in the first inning when
Derek Wylie singled to left field after
Matthew McDade doubled down the left field line. The Pacers responded with a rbi single of their own in the top half of the second.
Ian King put the Cougars back in front with a single up the middle scoring
Win Johns.
Colby Brabston launched a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Cougars but this would be the last run that CSU would score today. USC Aiken scored one run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to regain the lead. With some pesky pitching and some well-played defense they would hold onto this lead and salvage a split.
