AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team swept a doubleheader against Peach Belt Conference opponent Augusta University on Sunday, March 19, winning 12-4 and 10-5. Columbus State improves to 18-9 (7-2 PBC) and Augusta falls to 13-17 (0-12 PBC). Freshman
Nova Wright was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate on the day.
Game 1 - CSU 12, AU 4
- AU took an early 1-0 lead in the first off of a solo homer, but CSU scored eight runs in the second to go ahead, batting around the lineup.
- Nova Wright started the rally with an RBI single to left field to score Brooke Miller. Laura Harris then ripped a three-run RBI double, making it 4-1. Elyse Ambrose cleared the bases with a three-run homer and Wright added another RBI single to make it an 8-1Â ballgame.
- In the third, an RBI single from Hannah Rose Corbin and another three-run bomb from Ambrose made the score 12-1.
- The Jaguars scored three runs in the fifth thanks to another home run, an error and an RBI single.
- Jessica Lopez earned the victory inside the circle after striking out eight batters, allowing five hits and walking two batters. She is now 7-2.
- Wright went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored. Harris, Ambrose and Bayer each tallied two hits, with Ambrose recording six RBIs.
Game 2 - CSU 10, AU 5
- Ambrose ripped an RBI single into center field to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the first, but a Jaguar home run tied the game in the second.
- In the third, another RBI single to center from Ambrose, plating Caitlyn Canady gave the CSU the lead. Brooke Miller then hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center to score Harris, making it 3-1.
- A double from Augusta in the third minimized CSU's lead to one run.
- Canady made it 4-2Â with an RBI single to center, scoring Wright in the fourth inning. In the next half of the inning, AU tied the game off of a fielding error and stealing home.
- Wright hit another RBI single to the outfield to make it 5-4 in the fifth, but the Jaguars tied it again at five with an RBI line out to left field.
- The Cougars broke the game open in the sixth thanks to a two-run RBI double, scoring Harris and Corbin. Wright added to her perfect day at the plate jacking a three-run bomb to make the score 10-5.
- Corbin received the win on the mound and is now 9-5.
- Wright went 3-for-3 again with four RBIs and two runs scored. Ambrose also tallied three hits.

Columbus State will travel to Livingston, Ala. on Tuesday, March 21 for a nonconference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
