LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Columbus State University softball team split a doubleheader with the University of West Alabama on Tuesday, March 21. The Cougars won 7-0 in game one, but lost on a walk off home run, 4-5, in the nightcap. Columbus State now posts a 19-10 overall record and UWA is 20-8.
Game 1 - CSU 7, UWA 0
- The second inning was huge for the Cougars as Laura Harris and Brooke Miller each launched home runs to give CSU a 3-0 lead over the Tigers.
- In the fifth inning, Hannah Rose Corbin cleared the bases with a double to center field, scoring Katelyn Cooper, Caitlyn Canady and Madeline Parker to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
- Parker gave CSU a 7-0 lead in the sixth with an RBI single to left field, plating Cooper.
- Corbin earned the shutout win inside the circle after striking out 13 batters and only allowing one hit and four walks. She is now 10-5 on the season.
- Parker and Harris each tallied two hits, and Corbin and Miller each recorded two RBIs.
Game 2 - CSU 4, UWA 5
- Parker homered to center field in the third to put CSU ahead 2-0, but in the next half inning, UWA's Clegg minimized the Cougars' lead to one run after hitting a sacrifice fly in foul territory to left field.
- In the top of the fifth, Elyse Ambrose ripped a two-run homer to center to give CSU a 4-1 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, UWA's Sullivan stole third and advanced home on a throwing error by Nova Wright behind the plate, making it 4-2.
- The Tigers took tied the game in the sixth with two solo home runs, then walked it off in the seventh with another solo homer.
- Corbin received the loss on the mound after coming in for relief in the seventh.
- Parker and Canady each posted two hits and Ambrose had two RBIs.

The Cougars will return to Columbus, Ga. on Wednesday, March 22 for another nonconference doubleheader against Miles College starting at 4 p.m. at Cougar Field.
