Cougars sweep three game series with the Tritons

CSU is now 3-0 vs Eckerd all-time in the regular season.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team swept Eckerd College in their three game series against the Triton's. With the wins, Columbus State improves to 24-6 and 11-4 in the PBC. Eckerd falls to 14-10 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

GAME ONE: W 8-6
The Triton's jumped on CSU early and within the first two batters of the game as Eckerd ropped a two run homerun to right field. EC then took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a sac-fly to left field.

The Columbus State bats woke up in the fifth inning starting with a Matthew McDade single to left. The next batter, Derek Wylie hit a laser off the top of the right field wall for a double that scored two to tie up the game. The Cougars weren't finished as Win Johns came up later in the inning and smacked his third homerun of the season to put the Cougars up 5-3. Seth Nelson extended the Cougar lead with a single in the seventh.

The Triton's stormed back in the eighth inning as they tallied three hits to score three runs. In the bottom of the ninth, Win Johns came up with one on, one out and he launched a no-doubt shot to win the game for the Cougars with his second long shot of the day.

GAME TWO: W 5-3
Game two saw Colton Joyner shutting down the Eckerd offense by going seven strong innings, only giving up three hits, and striking out seven Triton's. Colton at one point sat down 12 consecutive Eckerd batters. This was Joyner's third highest strikeout total in a game this season and he leads the Cougars with 52 strikeouts on the season.

The Cougars threw a crooked number up in the fourth inning and it started with yet another Matthew McDade RBI-single. Cooper Krause singled with the bases loaded then Connor Kirley earned an RBI with a sac-fly to score McDade. Will Wilbanks also scored on a past ball in the inning.

EC made it interesting as they scored two in the seventh inning and another in the eighth. Peyton Burton returned to the bullpen and fired a shutout inning while striking out two to record his third save of the season.

GAME THREE: W 3-2
Isaac Bouton hit a two-run shot in the second inning to put the Cougars on top early. Bouton now has six homerun's on the year and he totaled three RBI's on the day. After the Triton's tied the ballgame up and two a piece, Ian King stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and he ripped a single up the middle to score Matthew McDade to put the Cougars back on top 3-2.

Jamie Boatright was fantastic in his start in which he went 4.2 innings while he struck out five. Zack Brockman piggy-backed Boatright and he record four straight outs. The Cougars then turned to closer Peyton Burton for the final inning and he recorded his fourth save of the season and his second of the day.
