Softball Takes Two From USC Aiken

The Cougars beat the Pacers 4-1 and 11-2 on Saturday.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against USC Aiken 4-1 and 11-2 (5 innings) on Saturday, March 25 at Cougar Field. With the wins, the Cougars improve to 23-10 (9-2 PBC) and the Pacers fall to 14-20 (6-8 PBC).

Game 1 - CSU 4, USCA 1
  • The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning with a bases loaded Laura Harris hit by pitch, plating Caitlyn Canady, and a Kenzie Bayer walk, allowing Hannah Rose Corbin to score.
  • Corbin made it 3-0 in the third with a solo home run over the center field fence.
  • USC Aiken scored one run in the fourth off of a pinch hit RBI single to right field.
  • Bayer ripped a homer to center field, making it a 4-1 ballgame.
  • Corbin earned her 11th win of the season inside the circle after striking out six batters, allowing five hits and walking two.
  • CSU tallied three hits with Corbin, Harris and Bayer each recording one. Bayer collected two RBIs and Corbin had two runs scored.
Game 2 - CSU 11, USCA 2
  • CSU repeated what was done in the first game in the first inning by scoring two runs. With bases loaded, Harris ripped a ball to right field, plating Canady and Corbin.
  • In the third, Corbin jacked her second homer of the day, extending the Cougars' lead to 3-0.
  • The Pacers added two runs in the fourth with two solo home runs.
  • With bases loaded in the fifth, Bayer smacked a grand slam to center field to make it 7-2.
  • A pinch hit RBI sacrifice fly to left field from Paige Vincent in the sixth scored Nova Wright, putting CSU in position for a run-rule win. Corbin made the run-rule happen with a walk-off three-run home run, her third bomb of the day and 10th of the season.
  • Jessica Lopez received her ninth win on the mound with eight strikeouts and Haylee Folds collected her first save of the season after 2.0 innings of work.
  • The Cougars recorded eight hits and Corbin had two with four RBIs and four runs scored. Bayer also tallied four RBIs.

The Cougars and Pacers will play the final game of the three-game series on Sunday, March 26 at noon at Cougar Field.
