CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team split a pair of games with the University of West Georgia on Wednesday, March 29. The Cougars won the first game 6-1 but fell short in the nightcap, losing 1-2 in nine innings.
Game 1 - CSU 6, UWG 1
- Lindsey Patton put the Cougars on board 1-0 in the third with a home run to left field.
- A Madeline Parker RBI double to right center field and a Laura Harris homer made it a 3-0 ballgame in the fourth.
- In the fifth, UWG hit a solo shot to minimize CSU's lead to three runs.
- Parker smacked her second double of the night, this time to left center, gave the Cougars a 6-1 lead.
- Jessica Lopez earned the win after striking out seven batters in 6.0 innings of work. She is now 10-2.
Game 2 - CSU 1, UWG 2
- The game was scoreless through the fifth inning until UWG ripped a home run to give the Wolves' a 1-0 lead over the Cougars.
- In the sixth, freshmen Anna Waites and Nova Wright made it happen for the Cougars. Waites led off with a double and ended up scoring off a Nova Wright single up the middle to tie the game at one.Â
- CSU and UWG were scoreless again until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Wolves' collected the walk-off victory with another home run. West Georgia scored each of their three runs Wednesday night off of home runs.
- Hannah Rose Corbin received the loss inside the circle after pitching in relief for starter Haylee Folds. Folds struck out six batters and Corbin sat down four.
- CSU struck out 11 times and left 12 runners on base.

Columbus State returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday, April 1 against Flagler College. The Cougars and Saints willl play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
