Softball Breaks PBC Most Homers in a Season Record, Sweeps YHC

The Cougars broke the PBC record of most home runs hit in a season (85) hitting 86.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The No. 24 Columbus State University softball team broke the Peach Belt Conference record of home runs in one season in the doubleheader sweep against Young Harris College on Saturday, April 22. The Cougars have hit 86 homers this season, beating the previous record of 85 held by Armstrong State since 2017.

Columbus State improves to 40-12 (23-3 PBC) and Young Harris falls to 18-28 (10-16 PBC).

Game 1 - CSU 6, YHC 3
  • Hannah Rose Corbin collected her 20th victory on the mound this season, striking out 10 in 7.0 innings of work.
  • Kenzie Bayer put CSU on board in the first with a two-run RBI single, plating Madeline Parker and Corbin. In the second, Caitlyn Canady reached on a throwing error by YHC's shortstop, allowing Grace Kiser to score on the overthrow from second base, making it 3-0.
  • The Mountain Lions added one run in the bottom of the second with a solo home run, but Lindsey Patton responded in the third with a two-run homer and Parker hit one out in the fourth to extend CSU'S lead to 6-1.
  • Young Harris scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh thanks sacrifice fly and an RBI single through the right side.
  • Parker and Kiser led the Cougars with two hits a piece.
Game 2 - CSU 9, YHC 1
  • The Cougars scored two runs in the first off of two YHC fielding errors. Laura Harris singled up the middle in the third inning, scoring Caitlyn Canady and making it 3-0 CSU.
  • CSU added three more runs to the board in the fourth thanks to Canady sacrifice fly to center field and a Corbin two-run RBI single up the middle, plating Nova Wright and Katelyn Cooper.
  • It was a home run derby for CSU the rest of the game as Brooke Miller hit two home runs (5 inn., 7 inn.) and Bayer jacked one in the seventh, giving the Cougars nine runs.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, YHC snagged CSU starter Haylee Folds' no-hitter with three hits and one run scored. Folds earned her ninth win of the season inside the circle, striking out five batters, walking three and allowing three hits.
  • Wright led CSU going 3-for-4 and Canady and Miller each tallied two hits.
