CSU Falls on the Road at Georgia Southwestern

The women's basketball team lost to Georgia Southwestern 72-52 Wednesday night in Americus.

AMERICUS, Ga. - Columbus State women's basketball headed to Georgia Southwestern State University for a Wednesday night matchup with the PBC's fourth-ranked team and defending conference tournament champions. The Lady Cougars struggled to establish an offensive rhythm from the start, which resulted in a Hurricane win by a score of 72–52. With the loss, CSU falls to 5-6 (1-2 PBC), and GSW improves to 9-2 (2-1 PBC) on the season. 

The Hurricanes controlled the majority of the first half out shooting the Lady Cougars 16-11 in the first and 18-8 in the second. Columbus State was down 34–19 at the half. Despite the deficit, the Lady Cougars returned from the locker rooms with intent, taking control of the third quarter, scoring 19 points. In turn, this fired up the Hurricanes, who came back in the fourth, posting 21 points to solidify their win. 

Letiya Reeves led the team in scoring with 11 points and added 3 blocks and 2 steals to her stats for the night. Bre'lyn Snipes was behind her, scoring in double digits with 10 points. Kristyn Goshay contributed from behind the arc, going a perfect 2-2 with 8 points on the night as well. 

As a team, Columbus State was 25.8 percent (16-62) from the field, 30.3 percent (10-33) from the three point line, and 83 percent (10-12) from the charity stripe.

Columbus State will be back in the Lumpkin Center on Saturday, Jan. 13 for another PBC matchup at 1:30 p.m. against the University of North Georgia.
