MORROW, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team battled till the end in a tightly contested game against Clayton State University on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Unfortunately, the Lady Cougars came up just short, dropping the contest to the Lakers by a score of 54-52. With the loss, Columbus State falls to 6-7 overall (2-3 PBC), while Clayton State improves to 4-10 overall (2-3 PBC).
The contest was a battle between teams from beginning to end, with 12 lead changes occurring. The Lady Cougars started with an 18-14 first-quarter lead. The Lakers took control of the final minutes in the second quarter and headed into the half with the lead at 33-29. Both teams struggled offensively in the second half, with each scoring only 12 points in the third. The fourth quarter was no better, with Columbus State scoring 11 points and Clayton State scoring 9. Clayton State claimed the win on a last-minute driving layup from Hannah Wright with five seconds remaining.
Amber Abusbeih was the only Lady Cougar who scored in double figures, with 10.
Bre'lyn Snipes followed Abusbeih and scored nine points of her own.
Olonna Rawls exceeded the team with nine rebounds and five steals.
As a team, the Lady Cougars were 32.2 percent (19-59) from field goal range, 20 percent (4-20) from behind the arc, and 83.3 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.
