Lady Cougars Hand Lander Their First Conference Loss

In a stunning upset victory, women's basketball defeated Lander 62-60 to secure their third consecutive win.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's basketball team defeated top-ranked Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander University in a thrilling game at home Saturday afternoon, scoring 62-60. Columbus State takes the game to record their third straight victory and raises their overall record to 9-7 (5-3 PBC). The Lady Cougars give the Bearcats their first conference loss, dropping Lander to 14-4 overall (7-1 PBC).

Columbus State and Lander fought shot for shot throughout the game, with six lead changes occurring. The Lady Cougars led 16-12 after the first quarter, but Lander fought back in the second, outscoring Columbus State, and both teams went into halftime tied 26-26. The Bearcats lead the Lady Cougars 45-43 entering the game's final quarter. Columbus State took the lead midway into the fourth quarter, and Lander could not recover from there.

Olonna Rawls and Letiya Reeves led the Lady Cougars with 17 points a piece. Maya Jackson also contributed with seven points and six rebounds, while Bre'lyn Snipes had six points, and Sophia Williams had seven rebounds. The bench proved to be essential for the Lady Cougars, as 29 points came from it. Columbus State shot 37.7 percent (20-53) from the field and 81.5 percent (22-27) from the foul line.
