COLUMBUS – The No. 2-ranked Columbus State University Women's Soccer team is set to close out regular season Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday afternoon at USC Beaufort (S.C.) in Bluffton, S.C.
Saturday's match is just the third meeting between the Lady Cougars (14-0-1, 8-0-0 PBC) and the Sand Sharks (7-4-4, 3-3-2 PBC) and the second time CSU will visit Fin Land Field for a 2 p.m. ET kickoff.
Columbus State returns to play after a 2-1 comeback win over Lander (S.C.) on Wednesday while USC Beaufort returns to action after a 2-2 draw at Clayton State (Ga.) last Saturday.
USCB comes into Saturday's match averaging 1.87 goals per game as the Sand Sharks have outscored opponents 28-17 this season. Offensively, USCB averages 17.2 shots per contest and are led by Kassi Martin and Sophia Willis with four goals apiece. Martin is the lone points leader, adding a pair of assists for 10 points this season.
Synne Bye-Andersen and Lauren Carmichael lead with three assists each. Bye-Anderson and Willis are second on the team with nine points followed by Savanna Page with eight.
Defensively, the Sand Sharks allow an average of 10.1 shots per game. Emily Worrell has tallied most of the minutes in goal, making 11 starts in 12 matches played. Worrell has totaled 40 saves and has 10 goals against for a 4-3-3 record.
As for Columbus State, they have bested opponents 68-8 on the season while putting up an average of 23.6 shots per game. The Lady Cougars are led by
Emma Beddow,
Sarah Hungerford,
Michelle Medina, and
Ui Suzuki all of whom have scored seven goals this season. Beddow leads with 22 points by adding eight assists followed by Hungerford's 17 points with Medina and Suzuki both notching 15 points each.
The Lady Cougars remain the top team in NCAA DII in goals per game (4.53), total points (177), total goals (68), shots on goal per game (12.3), and shots per game. In addition, CSU's defense has held opponents to just eight goals for an average of 0.53 per game with an average of 6.9 shots allowed per contest.
Columbus State and USC Beaufort will kick-off at 2 p.m. ET in Bluffton.
