Lady Cougars Defeat Bobcats to Punch Ticket to PBC Championship

CSU punches ticket to Sunday's final

COLUMBUS – The No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State Women's Soccer team challenged fourth-seeded Georgia College at the Walden Soccer Complex on Friday night for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Semifinals.
 
The Lady Cougars (18-0-1) captured a 2-0 victory over the Bobcats (9-7-3) to punch their ticket to the PBC Tournament Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
 
First Half
 
The Lady Cougars battled with the Bobcats in a half that just saw nine shots between the two sides with CSU leading 7-2 in overall attempts. Georgia College did a great job in defense to keep one of the most potent attacks in the country at a virtual standstill.
 
However, Columbus State would breakthrough the scoreless drought and close out the half with a 1-0 advantage. CSU ended the half with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal with Michelle Medina bagging her 10th score of the season in the 35th minute.
 
Second Half
 
Columbus State took just six minutes to find a second score with the connection of Emma Beddow to Faith Knoedler producing a two-goal edge at the 51:03 mark. In the next 15 minutes, the CSU attack notched three shots on goal but GCSU's keeper stood strong.
 
In the final 30 minutes of play, CSU closed with just five total shots and two on frame. The Lady Cougars closed out the half with a 10-2 shot advantage, tallying six shots on goal as well to help seal the fate of Georgia College to advance to Sunday's final.

  • CSU led 17-4 in overall shots and 10-1 in shots on goal.
  • The Lady Cougars led 6-3 in corners.
  • Medina notched her 10th goal of the season, moving to 21 points.
  • Beddow tallied her 10 assist to move to 26 points on the season.
  • GCSU's keeper totaled eight saves while Heidi Harris notched one.
  • Columbus State is looking to secure the program's 10th PBC Tournament Championship on Sunday.
